Kenneth Radu

Hunters

This road separates
a forest        pushes
five hundred miles
into further silence
and thickness.
Deadly nightshade
grows on its edge,
weasels' teeth click
against bones.
Two men with knives
cold cocks and knapsacks
whistle folk tunes
around a bend
where they wait
for a family of campers
to offer a ride.
